2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trim Comparison

Published on Oct 27, 2026 by Sarchione Chevy of Randolph

Picking a Silverado gets a lot easier once you know which engines each trim can have.

The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in nine trims: WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, High Country and ZR2. Six start with the TurboMax engine, LTZ and High Country start with a 5.3L V8, and the ZR2 starts with the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel. Your trim decides which engines you can choose.

Every trim and its engines, side by side

Find the trim you're eyeing and read across. The first engine column is what the trim starts with, and the second is what you can add.

What each engine brings

Every 2026 Silverado 1500 engine pairs with an automatic transmission, so the real choice is how much power and torque you want.

  • TurboMax: 310 hp and 430 lb.-ft. of torque with an 8-speed automatic. It's standard on the WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST and LT Trail Boss.
  • 5.3L EcoTec3 V8: 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. with a 10-speed automatic. It's standard on LTZ and High Country, and you can add it to several other trims.
  • 6.2L EcoTec3 V8: 420 hp and 460 lb.-ft. with a 10-speed automatic. It's available on the ZR2 and LT Trail Boss, plus 4x4 versions of the RST Crew Cab, LTZ and High Country.
  • Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel: 305 hp and 495 lb.-ft. with a 10-speed automatic. It's standard on the ZR2 and available on every trim except the WT and Custom, so if a diesel is on your list, start with our diesel trucks.

Among the four, the diesel makes the most torque, while the 6.2L V8 makes the most horsepower. If you tow often, torque is the number you'll feel.

WT, Custom, LT and RST for everyday work and driving

Think of the WT as the straightforward working truck. It starts with the TurboMax, and on a Double Cab or Crew Cab you can step up to the 5.3L V8.

Custom keeps the TurboMax and adds a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat.

The LT suits daily driving, since it opens the engine list to the 5.3L V8 and the Duramax diesel, and you can order bucket seats with a center console. The RST goes a step further. It and the LT Trail Boss are the two trims that offer all four engines, and the RST gets the 6.2L V8 on a Crew Cab 4x4.

Trail Boss or ZR2 for the trail

The Trail Boss trims and the ZR2 all have an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case, and the two Trail Boss trims add an automatic locking rear differential. Custom Trail Boss starts with the TurboMax and can add the 5.3L V8 or the Duramax diesel. Move up to the LT Trail Boss and you get those same choices plus the 6.2L V8.

Over on the ZR2, the single rear locker gives way to electronic locking differentials at the front and the rear. It comes with the Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel, and the 6.2L V8 is the alternative. You can't get a ZR2 with the TurboMax.

So the Trail Boss versus ZR2 question comes down to hardware and engines. Choose a Trail Boss if you want a locking rear differential and plenty of engine options, and choose the ZR2 if you want lockers at both ends. LTZ and High Country when the cabin matters

Both start with the 5.3L V8, so you get V8 power without adding anything, and the Duramax diesel is available on each one. The 6.2L V8 joins in on 4x4 models.

Seats are what set them apart. The LTZ has perforated leather up front, and the High Country moves up to premium leather. If you spend a lot of your week behind the wheel, that's the upgrade you'll notice every morning.

Cab styles, bed and towing

You can order the 2026 Silverado 1500 as a Regular Cab, Double Cab or Crew Cab. The Durabed gives you 89.1 cu. ft. of standard cargo volume.

The 2026 Silverado 1500 tows from 8,700 lbs up to 13,300 lbs with the Duramax. That top number comes with a Double Cab, the standard bed and 20-inch wheels. Maximum available 2026 payload is 2,260 lbs. Your own numbers will shift with the trim, engine, cab, bed and wheels. Match the build to your trailer before you decide. Matching a trim to your week

Here's a quick shortlist to turn nine trims into one or two.

  • Job site duty: the WT, with the 5.3L V8 on a Double Cab or Crew Cab if you want more muscle.
  • Commuting and errands around Randolph: the LT or RST with the TurboMax, or the Duramax if you like strong torque.
  • Weekend trails and Northeast Ohio back roads: a Trail Boss, or the ZR2 if you want lockers at both ends.
  • Pulling a trailer: a Duramax trim, built as a Double Cab with the standard bed and 20-inch wheels for the top rating.
  • A nicer cabin: the LTZ or High Country, depending on which leather you like.
  • Maximum horsepower: any trim that offers the 6.2L V8.

Silverado 1500 Trim Questions

Which trims make up the 2026 Silverado 1500 lineup?

Nine trims make up the 2026 Silverado 1500 lineup, running from the WT and Custom to the High Country and ZR2. Engines, seats and off-road hardware change from one trim to the next, so start with how you plan to use the truck and let that narrow the list.

Which 2026 Silverado 1500 trims come with the Duramax diesel?

The Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel is standard on the ZR2 and available on every other trim except the WT and Custom, which don't offer it. The diesel makes 305 hp and 495 lb.-ft. of torque, and it pairs with a 10-speed automatic.

What is the difference between the Trail Boss trims and the ZR2?

The Trail Boss trims and the ZR2 all have an Autotrac 2-speed transfer case. Trail Boss adds an automatic locking rear differential, while the ZR2 has electronic locking differentials at the front and rear. The ZR2 also comes standard with the Duramax diesel, where the Trail Boss trims start with the TurboMax.

Is the TurboMax engine standard on every 2026 Silverado 1500 trim?

The TurboMax is standard on six of the nine trims. LTZ and High Country start with the 5.3L V8, and the ZR2 starts with the Duramax diesel, so those three are the exceptions. It makes 310 hp and 430 lb.-ft. with an 8-speed automatic.

What cab styles does the 2026 Silverado 1500 offer?

You can choose a Regular Cab, a Double Cab or a Crew Cab. Cab style can change which engines you can order, so it's worth deciding early. The WT offers the 5.3L V8 on its Double Cab and Crew Cab, and the RST offers the 6.2L V8 on its Crew Cab 4x4.

What does the LTZ add over the LT?

The LTZ starts with the 5.3L V8 where the LT starts with the TurboMax, and it brings perforated leather front seats. You can also add the 6.2L V8 on 4x4 LTZ models. LT buyers can still build with the 5.3L V8, the Duramax diesel, or bucket seats with a center console.
